How to Unclog a Toilet ?
1- Keep the toilet from going overflowing. If your toilet doesn't flush after one flush, don't flush it again. This is going to cause more water to be pumped into the toilet bowl. Instead, take the lid off the toilet tank and close the toilet flapper. Closing the flapper will keep more water out of the bowl.-The flap appears like a triangular drain stopper connected to the chain.
-The water in the tank is not dirty, so it's all right to stick your hand inside to close the flapper.
2- Prepare for the bathroom. In case of splashing, place the paper or paper towels on the floor to soak up the liquid. The paper will make cleaning easier later. You should also turn on the ventilation fan or open a window to remove foul odors from the area.
-If the clog is serious, put a pair of rubber gloves on it. Toilets are not sanitary, but a good pair of rubber cleaning gloves will protect you from any germs inside. Choose the gloves that reach your elbows.
-You might also want to put on an old set of clothes, just in case things get messy.
3- See if the obstruction can be cleared. If you can see the cause of the clog, reach and remove it from the toilet if possible. If you can't clear it with your hands, but you know there's an element (such as a child's toy) which creates a clog, skip the dive and move straight to another method.
4- Use a high-quality plunger. It is important to use a large heavy-duty rubber plunger, either a ball-shaped type or one with a fold-out rubber flange on the bottom that forms a seal. Do not use a small, cheap plunger-type suction cup. They often won't work
- Run your plunger under hot water before using it. This is going to soften it, which is going to help create a seal.
5- Insert the plunger in the bowl. Make sure the plunger covers the hole completely. In order to be effective, the plunger should be submerged in water. It is important to push and pull water through the opening, not the air. If necessary, add water from the sink to the bowl.
- Pump the plunger over the hole. Start slowly at first, as the first plunge pushes air into the bowl. Push down, then pull up quickly to disrupt and release the clog. Continue to push and pull vigorously until the water starts to drain. It may take 15 to 20 cycles before the toilet unclogs. Be patient. As long as you are sure that there is no hard object, plunging alone is often enough. It may not work immediately but will often work after a few repeated efforts and flushings, with every effort made up of dozens of plunge cycles.
6- Flush the toilet to check for the drainage. If the plunger eventually drains the bowl, but the clog still blocks a free flow down the drain, leave the plunger in the bowl and fill the bowl with water again. Fill it to the point where it normally takes place after a regular flush, then plunge it again. Stubborn Clogs may require you to do this a number of times.
